Silly Leprechauns!

Are you prepared for a visit from a Leprechaun?  No clue what I’m talking about?? Right, that is EXACTLY what happened to me a few years back when my daughter came home from school and started babbling about Leprechauns and leaving your shoes outside.

I tried to make sense out of what she was talking about… and a huge part of me was annoyed – great, someone came up with something else!! But then the fear of “we can’t be the only one that doesn’t have a Leprechaun visit” syndrome took over.

So. Thankful. For. Google.  Haha… How many times has google saved the day?  Or there is always Facebook! Throw your question out there and you get a ton of answers… maybe from the one mom that started it all!  So, don’t shoot the messenger here. I PROMISE it wasn’t me!!   I’m Italian after all!!! ;)

OK, so I am sure there are a lots of different versions out there… but here is what I know….

Tell your children to expect a visit from a mischievous leprechaun on St. Patrick’s Day! You can have as much fun as you want with this.  These magical little people from Ireland are known for their trickery and don’t really like to share their gold!

Generally, it is pretty simple at my house. The girls leave their shoes out and hope that the Leprechaun will share their gold.  Sometimes they get gold foil coins (chocolate coins).  The shoes could end up somehow tied together or missing – then they have to be found.

A lot of harmless pranks tend to happen at other houses… like chairs upside down.  This is something where it just depends on how much time the silly leprechaun has! ;)

Some leave toys… So, it really just depends!  Some leave lots of green glitter all over the place… Cabinet doors in the kitchen are sometimes all left open!  Picture frames are found upside down… Sometimes the water in the toilet is found green… leprechauns are so tricky and sneaky you just never know what they might do!

Leprechauns are shoemakers, you know, and they seem to really have a fetish for them!  So, don’t forget to have the kiddos leave out their shoes on Saturday night!

Any gold foiled candy or little St. Paddy’s day treats (think stickers or green headbands, socks, elastics)… Gold covered rolos….  may just find their way into your kid’s shoes!

It comes down to the personality of the Leprechaun that visits you as far as how much trickery occurs!
